Lots of people ask me, what is VampireKittyCity? Well, VKC originally started to assist young local bands with promotion. The plan was to put on shows to help young local bands get the exposure they deserved, even though they weren’t old enough to play in nightclubs. There were very few places that even offered this opportunity, but we found them, and we hosted as many shows as we could while working our day jobs. We hoped to one day open our own all ages venue and have a store associated with it that would carry our house band’s merchandise as well as other items.
After years of hosting shows we realized that no matter how big of a need there was for such a thing, it just wasn’t a viable option. We noticed that most of the few venues that were open with the same idea, closed within a year. People always had an excuse for not coming out; usually it involved a ride or lack of money. Bands that we were trying to assist broke up, grew up, and moved on.
Not wanting to give up our interest in music and merchandise, we moved in another direction. This direction involves three passions; Cats, Clothes and Music.
Today, VampireKittyCity is about wanting to help those that we feel strongly about, whether it’s a band or homeless cats. We do this while keeping our creative needs fulfilled by offering DIY and handmade, as well as some readymade, merchandise in our store. It really is a joining of our passions and it keeps us sane.
So what is the deal with the name VampireKittyCity? Our name is a tribute to our plump little girl kitty, Wednesday Lou. She is mean to all our visitors and doesn’t think twice about hissing at and biting anyone who tries to touch her, anyone except us, of course. This behavior got her the alias of Vampire Kitty. Wednesday is represented on our site as our purple kitty logo. Her alias, combined with the word City represents our desire for a society where we can all get along, even though some of us bite.
